Looking for the following:
Type of opportunity:
Lease (1 to 5 Years).
More info: I am relocating to the Memphis area in July. After working on an organic farm in Huson, MT, for the past couple of years, I feel confident in my abilities to begin growing on my own. My primary crops will be cut flowers (annuals), with the goal of growing a small bed of veggies/herbs for personal use.
Equipment & infrastructure:
Well / Pond / Other water source, Greenhouse, Processing facilities, Irrigation equipment, Cold storage (cooler/freezer).
More info: Because cut flowers require facilities for processing, cold storage, and design, a warehouse with a walk-in cooler would be ideal. Irrigation equipment would be a huge plus.
Current production on farm:
Flowers, Herbs, Orchard, Poultry (Broiler/Layer), Vegetable production, Vineyard.
More info: I am open to assisting with basic maintenance of current farm operations in exchange for access to ~2 acres of farmable land.
Current farming practices:
Certified organic, Transitioning to organic, Ecological production but not certified.
More info: While organic certification is a huge plus, I understand that the transition to such distinction is extensive.
Qualifications and goals:
Previous farming experience:
Employee
Number of years experience:
2
Other qualifications:
Incubator program.
More info: Bachelor's degree in communication studies and event management. Farming on my own is going to be a very new endeavor, but one that I am passionate about and eager to utilize the knowledge and skills I have acquired from being a production-level farm laborer.
Production goals:
Flowers, Herbs, Poultry (Broiler/Layer), Vegetable production.
More info: As stated above, my main focus is cut flower production with small beds of herbs and veggies (for personal use). Ideally I would be able to have laying hens someday, but am in no rush to get to that point.
Personal experience and production goals summary:
I am excited to embark on this new adventure of farming cut flowers in an entirely new climate! I look forward to meeting local farmers and flower growers with knowledge of the area and its history.
