Personal experience and production goals summary:

I worked on a 1,000 acre horse ranch in California for a year where I learned that ranchers are the smartest people on the planet; they have to know a lot about a lot of things. I learned how to run fencing and provide access to water for animals. I learned you can live on generator power and solar panels. I gained experience (though not proficient in many) in things like welding, plumbing, mucking stalls and all forms of heavy ranch work like transferring truckloads/bales of hay, weeding fence lines and controlling weeds or dangerous plants, fence building, electric fencing, water line repair/installation, operating an excavator and dump truck, hauling trailers.... (you know, ranch work!). I'm interested in exploring a hobby farm and seeing what works and what doesn't and hopefully find something that is sustainable.

I've lived overseas in Asia for 10 years working as a missionary and had to learn how to be self-sufficient and figure things out on the fly. I've had to learn how to fix cars and houses and churches and computers and washing machines and even people sometimes! I'm 55 years old and looking to provide a place my wife and can do what I Thessalonians 4:11 says, "Lead a quiet life and mind our own affairs and work with our hands and not be dependent on anybody."
